Platinum / Palladium over Archival Pigment

To produce the prints in this section, I use a process first developed by Dan Burkholder called Platinum/Palladium over Pigment. It combines modern and vintage techniques to produce a unique, hand-made print with a timeless mood and texture. I begin by separating the color and monochrome components of each image. I then print the color as a background on Hahneumhle Platinum Rag paper using archival pigment inks in an Epson printer. I hand-apply the platinum/palladium sensitizer and expose it with a digital negative made from the monochrome portions of the image. The resulting prints are soft and muted, reminiscent of hand-tinted photographs from the early 1900s.
